'American Idol' vs. 'Voice': Juliet Simms better than Jessica Sanchez?

The finish line is in sight for both "The Voice" and "American Idol," with just a handful of performers still standing. On "The Voice," Jamar Rogers, Lindsey Pavao, Katrina Parker and Erin Willett were eliminated, leaving behind a final four of Tony Lucca, Chris Mann, Jermaine Paul and Juliet Simms. Over at "American Idol," Skyler Laine went home, leaving behind Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet and Hollie Cavanagh.

As the final four on each show move forward, so do our "Idol" vs. "Voice" rankings, which take the singers from both shows and put them head to head each week. I'm choosing my top five performers from among the two shows, along with Times music writers Todd Martens and Chris Barton —and you can cast your votes too, at the bottom of this post. LA TIMES

Well, that happened. Despite having the opportunity to let America make the decision on Tuesday's semi-final eliminations, coach Adam Levine instead used his percentage points to push Tony Lucca just barely ahead of Katrina Parker. Adam's scores left Tony Lucca with 60 points and Katrina with 40 (a margin of 20), but when America's votes were factored in, Tony had 108 and Katrina had 92... 'The Voice' recap

Phillip Phillips in "fine" position for American Idol win

First the good news: There have been three winners on "American Idol" who got intimate with the bottom three during their runs. That means that Hollie Cavanagh, Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet still have a shot at taking the top prize if they can survive the next two weeks.

Now the bad news: no singer has ever won "Idol" after being saved (Sanchez) or making more than one trip to the bottom (Cavanagh). And while that's a ray of sunshine for Ledet, who has only hit the stools of shame once, the odds are not in his favor considering that of the 10 previous winners, only three have gone on to victory after facing elimination... mtv

Have been abourd the Phillip Phillips train since it left the station. What about you? What's the reasoning behind your choice?

FOX declares "American Idol has surpassed The Voice as the number one show" ... according to the network airing American Idol.

posted on another blog...

"Ha! American Idol kicks The Voice and DWTS’s butts this week in both the demo and number of viewers.

Plus, did you hear? American Idol has surpassed The Voice as the number one show, including the NBC show’s massive post-superbowl ratings…" according to FOX, the network that airs American Idol.
No mention of the fact that The Voice and Dancing With the Stars are in direct competition. No mention of the fact that overall viewership is down 30%+ from last season. Oh, and voting numbers are up in spite of viewer ratings. Hmmm. Suspect?

Idol: Skylark Falls...

so, Skylark falls. whatever...

Mississippi's Skylar Laine got the boot from TV singing competition "American Idol" on Thursday, leaving the show with a rousing performance of country singer Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder and Lead."

On Wednesday's performance episode of American Idol, judge Jennifer Lopez had praised Laine's energetic performance of Credence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son." However, Skylar's rendition of "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me,the Dusty Springfield classic, was not her finest performance. Mentor Jimmy Iovine thought it was one of her weakest performances of the season.

Fellow contestant Hollie Cavanagh, also among this week's bottom two singers,
wowed the judges and audience alike on Wednesday with her rousing rendition of Tina Turner's "River Deep Mountain High."
Contestants sang hits from the 1960s, followed by songs by British artists on Wednesday, and "Idol" got a visit from one it most famous past winners, country songstress Carrie Underwood on Thursday elimination episode.
Underwood performed the title track from her album "Blown Away."  Coldplay sang their song "Paradise," and came back later in the show for an encore performance.

Four contestants remain on "Idol" heading toward the show's finale later this month.

Skyler will be fine and dandy nestled in the arms of country radio.

Some people are up in the air about Phillip Phillips, others have chosen to throw some hate his way – not me. I love his bluesy soulful vibe and when he "funks" the music up, guitar in tow. keep hatin' on Phil and acting like pouting middle school girls who don't get their way. Maybe you haven't realized yet that the more Phillip gets "dissed," the more his army rises up, the more votes he receives.

and, I agree. Wednesday night was most certainly not his best moment, not even close, but the others pale in comparison with his artistic sensibility. Jessica's music is the equivalent of mediocre karaoke. but, I will give her this, with proper vocal training and lassoing in the endless embellishments, she definitely has star potential. Just don't think she is quite there yet. so, yes, she is extremely talented with a boat-load of potential, however Elise is far and above Jessica with regard to vocal maturity. Same can be argued about Holly, though she is consistently improving.

(Someone actually posted this on another blog.)
"So, I’m basically on the anybody-but-phil train"

Seriously? Seriously. Grow Up.

So, thoughts? anyone?

We are just getting started here so stick around as we develop into a credible and unbiased blog where there will be a "Freedom of Expression" without censorship. We can all diplomatically agree to disagree, if need be. Topics will include discussions of The Voice, American Idol, the upcoming Duets, X Factor. You won't need to endure worthless commentary of an eliminated Idol contestant appearing at a mall in Iowa or wherever. Seriously. Relevant news concerning contestants will be included, but only if it's newsworthy. A former Idol contestant shaving his beard is in no way, well, newsworthy.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. We are four college-educated men and women in our 30's working together to build this site, basically as an alternative to what we refer to as the ugly step monster's blog. Come along. Your thoughts for the development of the site are always welcome.
